“Turpentine is an alternative blues and folk-rock album that in terms of compositions started from scratch. In my previous works I had a base of compositions that went back ten or fifteen years, but in Turpentine the canvas was blank, without backup copies. As a staunch defender of organic sound, I keep the record in the raw, in the retro: it is perceived that there is a living being behind the sounds.

Turpentine… this title is not free. I wanted to cleanse - and clean myself - the poison, expel the bad blood and leave the door open to new airs. In the lyrics for the first time I include a lot of personal content. In a lyrically minimalist way I seek to settle accounts inside and out, without ceasing to feel uplifting emotions (love is everything, folks!). These eleven songs are about life and death, love and hate. It's not a happy album but it's not an all-inclusive for a psychiatric hospital either. It is an honest and direct album.

Musically, the weight of open G tuning, used on the acoustic guitar as a starting point for almost all songs, is significant. On the other hand, the keyboards (the piano, the Wurlitzer, the organ) have more prominence, standing out in the songs Run And Hide Again, The Hardest Law, Goodbye Poison Friend, Belong and Smith. Slide On It enters the tracklist as a bonus track since it was the first of the compositions of this new stage and its sounds belong to Turpentine. This is also an album of tributes; Song For Gus is my tribute to Gustavo Cerati and Smith is dedicated to my muse”. - RP
